  • 2012 May 14 Summit County Open House

Summit County is hosting an Open House on May 14th & 15th.  This offers a chance to find out what is going on with Summit County services provided to the public.  Several of us know what is going on, but as county residents maybe you don’t know what other departments are doing.  This open house provides an opportunity to find out about new programs and changes to existing programs.

May 14th 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Kimball Junction Library Auditorium

May 15th 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Wanship Fire Station

Please join Summit County for an Open House and learn about programs that will reach everyone in the county.

Changes to Waste Collection and Recycling
[The new contract diminishes the amount of trash and recycling city and county residents can dispose of at their curbs.
The current contract picks up 383 gallons of trash and 272 gallons of recycling per month per house.
The new contract picks up 272 gallons of trash and 192 gallons of recycling materials.
Right now most houses have a 96-gallon can picked up once a week for trash.
The new contract changes the 96-gallon trash can with the 68-gallon can picked up once a week; a loss of 72 gallons per month.
Right now most houses have a 68-gallon can picked up once a week for recycling.
The new contract changes the 68-gallon can with the 96 gallon can picked up every other week; a loss of 80-gallons per month.
Multiply this out to the 14,000 homes in the county — 72 plus 80 = 152 gallons per month times 2¢ per gallon. These contract terms create just over $510,000 in annual contract savings, and a 30% cut back of trash and recycle curbside pickup service.
Calculating the cut in service with the savings demonstrates that though the County may be paying Allied less they are also getting less service for the taxpayers, not a true savings after all.]
